All our photography holidays and tours are designed to exploit the best photography opportunities that a destination has to offer, and we aim to cover the widest range of photography genres possible. But what if you particularly want to shoot a crystal clear night sky? Or local people with wizened, weather-beaten faces, wearing centuries-old traditional clothes? Here’s a cheat-sheet of the best photography holidays for these and other out-of-the-ordinary photography opportunities:
Best photography Holidays for…
Shooting a spectacular night sky:
On our Magical Morocco tour you’ll have the chance to go out at night in to the Sahara Desert. There won’t be a hint of light pollution and the night sky will be stunning, possibly with more stars than you have ever seen. Our expert photography leader will help you to capture them in the best way that your equipment will allow.
In Dramatic Iceland we’ll be out most nights to capture the highly photogenic Northern Lights. If we are unlucky with the Aurora, then we always have a night sky unaffected by light pollution to fall back on! The weather can be very unpredictable in Iceland, but the good news is that on nearly every night of the tour the light pollution is low enough to give us another chance.
Capturing the wizened, time-worn features of local people:
Magical Morocco is ideal for capturing impactful portraits of interesting local people. The Moroccan Berbers are an ethnic group who have been around for perhaps 4000 years. To this day they maintain very old traditions and the men wear turbans, sometimes of striking colours, while the women often cover their hair with scarves and wear intricate jewellery. Visiting several Berber villages give us the chance to capture stunning portraits of these fascinating and photogenic people.
Visiting villages on our Greek Adventure means meeting old ladies, often dressed head to toe in black, chatting in front of their houses, while the old men of the village play backgammon at lightening speed in the local Kafeneion. Warm and welcoming, they’ll be happy to have their picture taken in return for a our attempts to say a word or two in Greek (don’t worry – your photography leader can help!).
Getting that unique shot…
All of our photography holidays offer many opportunities for getting unique shots, but here are some of the most special ones:
- Belly dancer: On both our Magical Morocco and Turkey Explorer photography holidays we get the opportunity to photograph a belly dancer; not only during the show but with a prearranged session with just us and the dancer giving us the time to work together to get great shots.
- Whirling Dervishes: Konya is one of the few places in the world where we can photograph the stunning spectacle of this ancient Sufi sect as they whirl themselves in to a trance in an attempt to get closer to God. We have exclusive access to photograph them before their demonstration on our Turkey Explorer photography holiday.
- Flamenco dancer and guitarist: There is nothing quite so Andalucian as the Flamenco dancer and guitarist. On the Andalucia: Land of the Moors photography holiday we get to see a show and photograph the performers beforehand with the time to work on getting the images we want.
